Reasons to Book a Winter Break In Devon

There are so many good reasons to book a winter break in Devon. To spend a weekend or a midweek break in one of our cosy country cottages is such a wonderful way to indulge yourselves, to take time out away from the crowds, cocooned away from the world in the beautiful East Devon countryside. You’re special and you’re certainly worth it, but if you need a reason you’ll find plenty of inspiration below:

It's Cheaper

Everyone knows that great savings can be made on out of season cottage breaks. Our prices for a 4 night midweek stay start from just £315. At Siskins Nook, where there’s snooze space for 4, that’s less than £20 per night per person! At Pipits Retreat, which sleeps 5, it works out even less – just over £15 per night each! That’s what we call unbeatable value!

It’s Quieter

Devon is one of the hotspots for holidays in the UK and in the summer it gets very busy down here. Take a break out of season and it’s oh-so quiet, especially here at Stonehayes Farm because we’re tucked away in the lanes surrounded by glorious countryside. It’s a fantastic opportunity to escape to a cosy little bolthole and recharge your batteries. Think walks along the shore, market towns to browse, welcoming country pubs to dine at…

It's Great For a Romantic Break

Just imagine getting away with the love of your life and battening the hatches in a country cottage for a weekend or a few days midweek. Imagine hand in hand walks along quiet beaches, coming back to the warmth of the fireside to toast marshmallows and sip a hearty glass of red. Just spending time together in a world of your own, strolling through woodlands ankle deep in leaves, gazing out over hills and fields that roll on forever.

It’s a Wonderful Way To Celebrate

Whether it’s just the two of you, a small group of friends or family, or a larger gathering, a winter break is a brilliant way to celebrate milestone birthdays, anniversaries and achievements. Round up your nearest and dearest and look forward to raising a toast in the comfort of the beautiful self catering cottages at Stonehayes Farm! For larger groups the thatched farmhouse, Pippinsands sleeps 14 and you can stay midweek for 4 nights for just £995 – or less than £18 per night each! Whinchat Barns sleep 11 and are a similar price for a 4 night midweek break. Add to the sense of occasion by booking private chefs to create a special feast for you, make it a time to remember!

It's Brilliant For Walking Breaks

If you like getting deep into the countryside for a jolly good walk, our country cottages will give you an excellent base. We’re in the Blackdown Hills AONB here so there are walks galore right on the doorstep and within a very short drive is the South West Coast Path and the beautiful beaches of the Jurassic Coast. Reap the many health benefits of a good winters walk, get out there in the elements, come back with a rosy glow and light the fire. Remember, there’s no such thing as bad weather – only inappropriate clothing, bring your waterproofs just in case and you’ll be fine.

Devon is so Beautiful!

We never stop being grateful for where we live and we want to share it with you – all this natural beauty all around us! Sure, it’s amazing all year but there’s something very special about winter in the Devon countryside. We love waking up to the magic of frosted fields and the mist rising off the river in the beautiful Otter Valley, the big old winter moon rising high above the hills, and a sky full of stars appreciated from a hot tub bubbling on a chilly night.

You Can Bring Your Dog

It’s a fact, we’re a nation of pet lovers and our dogs are very much a part of the family, so all of our cottages are pet friendly. You can enjoy walks here in the fields at Stonehayes Farm with your pooch, and just imagine how happy he’ll be when you get back, fast asleep in front of the fire.

You Can Enjoy A Pre-Festive Break

We all know how special the build-up to Christmas is, the music, the twinkly lights, the festive scents of pine cones and cinnamon, mulled wine and mince pies. There are lots of Christmas events held around here – Christmas Markets and Fayres, carol singing, Christingle services, Santa in his grotto, and even the chance to go ice skating. It all adds to the sparkle and makes it so magical.

It’s the Best Way To Stave off the Winter Blues

Winter brings with it grey skies and shorter days and sometimes, that can get you down a bit. A break in a Devon holiday cottage is a great way to fight off the winter blues, time to hunker down by the soft lamplight, dreaming the hours away with the people you love most in the whole wide world. These are days to remember, memories to treasure.

It’s Good To Escape the Routine

You know what they say – a change is as good as a rest? Well, when you stay for a while in a country cottage snug as bugs, you get both – a change and a rest. A winter break at Stonehayes Farm is a lovely way to escape your routine, though even if you do have to keep in touch with the office we have reliable internet. You know how it is sometimes – get up, work, eat dinner, watch telly, sleep, and so it goes day after day after day; this way you can mix it up a little, different surroundings, a new vibe, time to refresh.

And that’s it, our reasons to book a winter break in Devon. Treat yourselves to a few days away, taking advantage of the amazing prices we’ve mentioned. There will be a hamper of local goodies waiting for you, you’ll have lovely comfy beds, soft towels, a basket of logs and time to unwind. Come and be cosy, come and feel the ❤️ this winter.
