Late Availability Holiday Cottages In Devon

Treat yourselves to a pre-Christmas break with our late availability holiday cottages in Devon. Come and snuggle up in front of the fire, warm your toes and just BE HAPPY in the wonderful world that we’ve created here at Stonehayes Farm. Five of the cosiest cottages, snooze space for 4-14, peace and quiet, achingly beautiful countryside all around, views that roll on for miles.

So here we are, another lockdown lifted, a tougher Tier system. Like most of the country, here in Devon we’re in Tier 2, which means you can’t mix with anyone you don’t live with indoors – but you can still have a holiday or a winter short break with your family and support bubble. We’re all agreed it’s been a long old slog this year, all the uncertainty, the fear and confusion. Who doesn’t feel like getting away from it all, even if it’s just for a weekend or a midweek break? Our late availability holiday cottages in Devon tick all the right boxes for that kind of thing – it’s an opportunity to escape the madness, to have a rest and along with it, a big wholesome dose of country living.

Imagine being tucked up in a beautiful thatched cottage in the Devon hills for a few days… Pippinsands sleeps 14 and comes with the luxury of a private hot tub. This is the quintessential English country cottage, centuries old, with original features like the big thick beams, exposed wall timbers and huge flagstones on the floor. It’s a gorgeous blend of rusticity and stylish up to date interiors; the gentle ambience makes it such a wonderful house for a break any time of year, and especially so in the winter when it’s so warm and cosy. Curl up in a soft armchair in front of the fire, mesmerised by the flames, favourite tipple in hand; step outside to hear the birds contentedly twittering in the hedgerows, pull on your boots and your winter coat and stroll down across the fields to wander along the river. Just you and yours, far, far away from the chaos.

We have four smaller cottages too, all named after some of the birds we’ve spotted going about their business round here. Once upon a time these cottages were part of a busy working farm and used for storing apples and hay, or providing shelter for livestock; people lived a simple but happy life in the Blackdown Hills in those days but things changed over time and farming became a harder way to make a living so after a very sympathetic transformation, these old barns were given new life as well equipped holiday cottages with a shared games room, a play area, and 15 acres of grounds to explore. And how lovely they are, each with their own private garden area, each with their own wood-burning stove for you to light after a wintry walk in the fields. Siskins Nook sleeps 4 in two bedrooms, Pipits Retreat and Wagtail Corner each sleep 5 and Dippers Rest sleeps 6 in three bedrooms. The beauty of it is that you can book as many of the cottages as you need for your group – for example Wagtail Corner and Dippers Rest are right next to each other so they’re often booked out together as Whinchat Barns to sleep 11.

We were thinking; there’s something very special, something almost magical about a break in the country just before Christmas. Maybe that’s why it’s such a lovely thing to do, when it’s still nice and quiet before the hecticness of organising the festivities begins. It’s great now we all know what we can do – for five days (Dec 23-28) we can meet up with and stay with two other households, which is something. Not perhaps what we wanted but you know, all for the common good, they tell us, so let’s make the most of it. You might already have everything sorted, all your plans in place, and if you have, well done you, you deserve a little treat so you should definitely book one of our late availability holiday cottages in Devon. If you haven’t got Christmas planned yet, well, check availability because it’s possible you could all come here and have an extra special time in idyllic surroundings, the perfect country Christmas.

Like we said, it’s been a horrendous year. Treat yourselves to an early festive break in one of our late availability holiday cottages in Devon. Goodness, you are SO worth it, you know you are ✨
