Beer Self Drive Motor Boats, Beer, Devon

If you’re planning a trip to the beach at Beer when you’re staying at Stonehayes Farm for your holiday in Devon, you might want to factor in a boat trip with Beer Self-Drive Motorboats. This is a great way to see the beautiful scenery of Lyme Bay at your own pace, and a great way to make unforgettable memories.

Beer Self-Drive Motorboats is run by Simon, who usually has his fleet available from Easter until the end of October. You can hire boats by the hour, so it’s up to you how long you spend out on the sea. 2 hours is plenty enough time to take in this part of the Jurassic coastline, if you want to try your hand at mackerel fishing, allow 3-4 hours. Life jackets are supplied, as are fishing lines, and Simon has rods for hire.

What you need to know is that each boat holds 6 people, dogs are welcome on board, and so are babies, but there’s no room for buggies, so you’ll have to leave those for Simon to look after. He’ll show you how to operate the boat and explain where you can go – he’s proper local so he knows these waters well.

Best advice is to ring in advance to arrange hire. If you rock up and chance it, someone will point you in the right direction or give Simon a shout when you get to the beach, but booking is highly recommended as the summer months can be busy, especially at weekends. The other thing is that this is weather dependent so if it’s too windy you might have to forego your boat trip. Hopefully the sea will be calm, the sun will be shining and there won’t be a cloud in the sky. And if you’re very, very lucky, you might even have dolphins following in your wake.
