Breakwater Beach, Brixham, Devon
Right next to the harbour at Brixham, Breakwater Beach is a small shingle beach where people go to pass the time bathing, paddleboarding, canoeing, snorkeling and fishing. It’s also good for scuba diving; if that’ something you do you’ll see rare seagrass beds and fish, and if you’re lucky, seahorses and maybe a shipwreck.
What’s good is that the beach is sheltered by the cliffs from the south westerly winds and that it’s a Blue Flag beach with lovely clean waters, considered one of the saftest for swimming on the South Devon coast. Turn up early in the morning and you might even spot seals; there are rocks to clamber over, and at low tide, rock pools to explore; if you need to stretch your legs you can walk up over the cliffs on the South West Coast Path.
You can park right by the beach and up behind it there’s a café, restaurant and beach shop, and there are loos, which is all the facilities you need. Ramps allow for disabled access so Breakwater Beach is one that everyone can enjoy.
Dogs are banned between May and September.
