Colyton, Devon
When you’re staying down this way for your holiday in Devon, you might well find yourselves in the quiet town of Colyton – especially if you take a ride on the tram from Seaton, along the wetlands of the Axe estuary, because this is where the line terminates.
Alight at the station and if you’re hungry go and fill your bellies at The Tramstop Café, or put it off ‘til later and go for a wander round the streets. You’ll find a few local shops and galleries with arts and crafts, there’s a very good bakery, and a Heritage Centre if you want to find out more about the town and the part it played in the Monmouth Rebellion in 1685.
What’s nice is to have a stroll along the river when you head back to the station, big open fields ahead, those soft Devon hills rolling in the distance. You might even fancy going to The Kingfisher Inn for a home cooked pub lunch or a fresh crab sandwich.
