Dukes, Sidmouth, Devon
If the sea air makes you peckish when you’re having a day by the sea at Sidmouth, go give Dukes a whirl. Right on the esplanade, a stone’s throw from the beach, this modern seaside pub is very popular with locals and visitors, so you’d be wise to book in advance.
The award-winning food they serve is made using ingredients sourced mostly from the South West, keeping the carbon footprint to a minimum, just how it should be. On the House Menu are small plates and starters, seafood, meat dishes, plant based food, salads, sandwiches, snacks and of course, the all-important desserts. Tuck into the likes of Slow braised lamb shoulder with crushed herby new potatoes, redcurrant jus and seasonal veg, Moules frites, Beetroot risotto with candied walnuts, feta and basil oil, or their very own Dukes cheeseburger made with Dartmoor beef, Monterey Jack Cheese and red onion chutney.
Snacks, cakes and drinks are available all day, during the week lunch is served from 12-2:30, and dinner from 5:30-8:30. At weekends they kick off with breakfast from 9-11 (Full English, Eggs Benedict, Veggie breakfast), lunch runs from 12-5:30, and dinner service is the same as on week days. There are also daily specials, a Kids Menu, and on Wednesdays they do a great value Steak Night. Inside is modern and vibrant, outside there’s a large deck where you’ll have views of the sea.
