Fossil Hunting Walks, Charmouth, Dorset
Join a Fossil Hunting walk from the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre and you might go home with a fossil found on the Jurassic Coast with your own fair hands. The event starts off with a talk and video telling you all about the type of fossils you can find and showing examples of what to look for. Then it’s off to the beach with your guide who has heaps of tips and advice that will help you find what you’re looking for.
These Fossil Hunting Walks last 1.5 hours and the group size is up to 40, so you’ll need to book your places. Smaller groups can book a private fossil hunt for up to 10 people, which is rather a lovely thing to do when you’re on holiday in the West Country, though bear in mind that they don’t do these in the school holidays. Hunts are of course dependent on the tides and because the terrain is uneven and muddy in places, sensible shoes with a good tread are essential.
