Nick’s Mackerel Fishing Trips, Lyme Regis, Dorset

Get your sea legs on and head down to the harbour at Lyme Regis for one hour mackerel fishing trips or three hour deep sea fishing. Nick’s Mackerel Fishing Trips set sail every hour on the hour from 9 to 5, March to November, and they last about an hour. Have a go at catching your supper; all the gear is supplied and you’ll be in the safe hands of an experienced skipper who will give you plenty of advice and encouragement. He’ll even fillet your fish, and if you like, when you get back to shore you can have it cooked at the local takeaway that Nick has an arrangement with.

Nick has been working on the waters of Lyme Bay for over 30 years; he’s got two boats and can arrange more for bigger parties. The Kraken carries 11 passengers for mackerel fishing, with all ages welcome so it’s great for families as everyone can have a go no matter how old you are. The Antelma has room for 8 for deep sea fishing trips where you go out to one of the reefs or shipwrecks off the shores of Lyme and fish for the likes of pollock, wrasse, conger eel, dogfish, bass, whiting and john dory.

Nick also runs sightseeing cruises along the Undercliff Nature Reserve and the Jurassic coastline, and if you’ve got a special event, say a birthday or something to celebrate, or even if you just fancy having a boat entirely to yourselves, you can opt for private charter. These trips run for 1 to 3 hours and are a fantastic way to relax and enjoy the spectacular scenery – plus there’s always the possibility of seeing dolphins. Now there’s a thing.
