Peak Hill Llamas, Sidford, Sidmouth, Devon

Book with Peak Hills Llamas for walks with llamas on the beautiful Jurassic Coast – not something you’d necessarily put together but it’s possible and it’s a lovely thing to do when you’re staying nearby at your family friendly Devon holiday cottage.

There are a few llama experiences on offer on the 330 acre working beef and sheep farm where the llamas live, just outside of Sidmouth. Go for a Morning Stroll or an Afternoon Amble around the fields, or if you want to spend longer getting to know these gorgeous animals, opt for a Half Day Experience which includes a break for cakes and a hot drink. If for any reason you don’t particularly want to go walking, have a Meet & Greet Experience where you spend an hour with the llamas and cover grooming, clicker training, which they respond very well to, and llama agility.

The walks aren’t by any means strenuous; it’s all done at llama pace, which is slow and gentle and definitely allows time to stop for a nibble here and there. Being out in the fresh air with these fascinating creatures is an incredible experience; coupled with the spectacular scenery, this is not something you’ll forget in a hurry.

It’s advisable to book well in advance if you can as this is a very popular activity. Bear in mind that llamas are pack creatures, so they’re very sociable and don’t like to go out alone; for that reason it’s not a great idea for just one person to book a walk – there should be at least two and ideally a small group of you. It’s not something for children under 5 though, and anyone under 16 years of age must be accompanied by a paying adult. The other thing is, no dogs.
