Seasons Tea Rooms, Ottery St Mary, Devon

From the outside Seasons Tea Rooms in the quiet Devon town of Ottery St Mary might not look much, in fact you might think it a little old fashioned, but you know what they say - you should never judge a book by its cover. Behind that traditional exterior, the lace curtains and the assortment of knick-knacks in the windows, is a very friendly tea shop where you can get a decent bite to eat and a jolly good cup of tea. And actually, what's good about this place is that it makes you grateful for being able to slow down, to drop the pace, to get away from all the nonsensy parts of life in the 21st century. It makes you realise things don't need to be all flash and snazzy, if you want simple honest fare you don't need the pretensions you so often see in eateries these days - it's not about the decor, what your food is served on and what things are called on the menu, sometimes it's about things like a proper sandwich on a china plate (not a slate or a block of wood!) and a decent hot drink to wash it down with. That simple.

Give it a try, go and have breakfast - toast with jam or marmalade, or have a full English. For lunch you can have a Ploughman's or a sandwich and then a nice piece of cake. It's kind of like your gran or your great auntie might feed you, and what, oh what, is the matter with that?
