Southern Cross Devon Guest House & Tea Rooms is on the high street in Newton Poppleford - the main road between Sidmouth and Exeter. The building is charming; it’s 18th century so it’s all bumpy whitewashed cob walls, leaded windows and a heavy thatched roof; inside that character is everywhere, in the low ceilings, centuries old beams and deep windowsills.
Go and have your own little tea party, a big pot of tea, scrumptious cakes and scones, all freshly made and baked on site; in the spring and summer it’s a delight to sit out in the peaceful garden sipping tea from china cups and saucers, tucking in to big fat scones piled with jam and cream.
