The Holt, Honiton, Devon
The Holt is a gastropub at the bottom of Honiton High Street, right next to the river. They've nailed that mix of running a very good pub and restaurant that serves the locals and visitors very well indeed, but the other thing they are is a smokehouse as they smoke their own meat and fish to use in the food they serve, along with their own freshly baked bread.
The food is amazing, working on a seasonal basis and using as much locally sourced produce as possible. On the main menu you'll find things like Chargrilled sirloin steak, autumn vegetables, blue cheese sauce or garlic butter, Grilled fillet of bream, roasted shell on tiger prawn, red pepper and miso, coconut potato, and sesame, Braised butter beans, slow roasted tomato and garlic, autumn vegetables, croutons, and red wine jus, served with the likes of Smoked Duck leg confit. Book a table, you won't regret it, service is jolly, the ambience is delightful.
