The Longboat Café, Budleigh Salterton, Devon

On the marine parade in the peaceful town of Budleigh Salterton with uninterrupted views of the sea, The Longboat Café is the place to go if you have a penchant for fish and shellfish. They’ve teamed up with local specialist suppliers just along the Jurassic Coast in Exmouth so mussels, crab, lobster, oysters and scallops are a big feature on the menu, along with the daily fish catch.

The ambience at The Longboat Café is great; it’s very relaxed, all very beach shack style, just the kind of unhurried pace you need when you're on holiday in Devon. Their speciality is filled rolls - but not just any old roll, oh no, these are seriously good artisan rolls freshly baked each day in Exeter; amble along earlier in the day and tuck into a breakfast roll - sausage and bacon, bacon and egg, two fried eggs, whatever you fancy. At lunchtime there's scallop and bacon, lobster, crab and ham and cheese, or you can plump for a toasted panini, or a pint of shell-on prawns. If you get there later in the day have tea and cake, or a proper job Devon cream tea and treat the young 'uns to some very special local ice cream. They'll love it.
