If you like to live like a local when you’re on holiday, you need to venture off the High Street when you’re visiting a new town; that’s when you discover places like The Salt Cellars Café in Budleigh Salterton, and you start to feel like you’re actually part of a community.
The Salt Cellars isn’t a big place but there’s room for a group of you if you book in advance. They serve a good choice of breakfasts including an All Day Breakfast, Mushroom hash, Smashed avocado and a Veggie breakfast, moving onto to lunchy things like jacket potatoes, soup of the day, toasties and loaded nachos (Devon Fire Sausage Rolls. Ooh! Now you’re talking.!)
The pizzas they serve on a Friday evening seem to go down well, especially with a nice glass of Italian wine.
The Salt Cellars isn’t one of those destinations food places, more an ‘if you’re in the know’ kind of place, but it’s not trying to be anything it isn’t and that’s what’s good about little cafes like this. It’s unique here, the service is good and the people who work here are a friendly bunch.
