The Tuckers Arms, Dalwood, Axminster, Devon

There aren't many pubs to be found that have a history stretching back 800 years, but The Tuckers Arms in the peaceful village of Dalwood is one of them. Wind your way round the narrow country lanes, pull up on the cobbled forecourt and go on in – this place just oozes character and charm inside and out, with its thatched roof, bumpy old whitewashed walls, low beamed ceilings and flagstone floors. Oooh, it’s lovely!

The beer is good, the menu a very tempting combination of the bountiful produce to be found in these parts and creative flair from the kitchen. Seafood from the waters of Lyme Bay, meat from local farms, and even wine from the village vineyard, all put to excellent use to get your tastebuds dancing with delight.

When the sun has got his hat on sit outside in the pretty garden, when it’s cold, the best place to be is indoors, nice and cosy by the log fires.
