Town Mill Bakery, Lyme Regis, Dorset

Town Mill Bakery and Café is up a little side street in the heart of Lyme Regis; it’s easy to find so go along and see what it’s all about – the atmosphere is very convivial and relaxed, with big long benches so everyone sits together; the food is amazing.

They open quite early (8.30am) and serve breakfast/brunch/lunchy things until about 2pm (2.30pm at weekends). Then they have to shut up shop and get on with the baking, ready for the next day. The menu is varied, with their own, much nicer versions of the Full English, and dishes like Courgette, sweetcorn and Halloumi fritters, Dorset rarebit, a choice of curries (chicken, prawn, vegetable), Sourdough pancakes with maple syrup, sandwiches, soup, and seriously good coffee. There’s a smaller menu for children, and because it’s a bakery as well, you can buy food to take home, all made by hand onsite. And goodness, it’s good. No, it’s beyond good, it’s heavenly – the loveliest sourdough bread, scrumptious pastries, hearty pasties, sausage rolls, cakes, and even peanut butter, museli and free range eggs. Don’t forget to take your shopping bag!

Four legged friends are welcome in the courtyard, and there are even blankets to keep them warm in colder weather, as well as a little treat for them if they behave themselves. Which they will of course.
