Tumbling Weir Hotel and Restaurant, Ottery St Mary, Devon

Tumbling Weir Hotel and Restaurant is tucked away between the River Otter and the mill stream in Ottery St Mary, just a little further along from the fascinating Tumbling Weir from which it gets its name. Converted from a 17th century cottage, the hotel isn’t very big, which is a good thing we think (the best things come in small packages) and it has plenty of historic character, besides a very peaceful location.

They serve dinner every night except Sunday (7.00pm-8.30pm) and Sunday lunch from 12.00 to 1.45pm. Food is fresh and seasonal made using the finest local ingredients - herbs are grown in the hotel garden, jams, chutneys and pickles are made in the kitchen. From the mains you could have something like Hot seafood platter, Pan fried fillets of Brixham sea bass, Slow roasted Creedy Carver duck leg, or Tumbling Weir mixed grill; the Sundays roast is excellent. On a warm summery evening it’s a joy to sit out on the covered terrace overlooking the landscaped gardens.
