Wellington, Somerset

Stop for a browse around Wellington on the edge of the Blackdown Hills in Somerset, and you’ll find mostly independent shops – the butchers, the bakers, the grocers, the deli, all nice and traditional. Yes, there are a few big names but not enough to take away the character of a proper country town – especially not with the regular markets that are held here. The atmosphere when the Farmer’s Market is on is buzzing, with folk coming from far and wide to fill their baskets with things that are made and produced nearby. If you fancy a bite to eat The Green Dragon is one of the more popular places, along with Odette’s Tea Rooms which is great for lighter lunches and afternoon teas.

Come in the evening to see the latest big film at the 1930’s Art Deco style theatre, or drop by after a walk through the beech woods up to Wellington Monument just outside the town.
