Axe Valley Wildlife Park, Axminster, Devon
Axe Valley Wildlife Park just outside of Axminster, is a small and friendly zoo, aimed at families with children under 12. Go and say hello to the animals who live there, the meerkats, lemurs, zebras, flamingos, chipmunks and lemurs; see the reptiles and the creepy crawlies, and if it’s summer you can catch a keeper talk and get involved with activities like Guinea Pig Fishing, or even have an animal encounter. If you happen to have an animal mad youngster in your group book them in for an Animal Experience, excitement will be high, they'll be thanking you for years to come.
What makes the Axe Valley Wildlife Park extra special is the backdrop of the beautiful East Devon countryside; it kind of makes you want to take your time there, although if you don’t want to linger it’s a good attraction to tie in with a trip to the seaside as the Jurassic Coast is only a short drive away, so you could head on to the beach at Lyme Regis.
There’s a little café at the wildlife park, a play area, and if you’re the organised types, a picnic area with a covered barn for those less clement days. The other good news is that Axe Valley Wildlife Park is wheelchair and pushchair friendly.
