Axe Valley Wildlife Park, Axminster, Devon

Axe Valley Wildlife Park is a small and friendly place, more one for children who are under 12 really. It’s a lovely one to go to for a family outing to see the animals who live there. There are meerkats, lemurs, zebras, flamingos, chipmunks, lemurs, reptiles and creepy crawlies; in the summer you can catch a keeper talk or even have an animal encounter. If you happen to have an animal mad youngster in your group book them in for an Animal Experience or to be Keeper For a Day – you can round it off with a drive down to Seaton on the Jurassic Coast for fish and chips, or head into Axminster for pizzas at Ray's Mediterranean Restaurant.

What makes the Axe Valley Wildlife Park extra special is the backdrop of the beautiful Axe Valley countryside; it kind of makes you want to take your time there, although if you don’t want to linger it’s a good attraction to tie in with a trip to the seaside as the Devon coast is only a short drive away, so you could head on to the beach at Beer or Lyme Regis.

There’s a little café at the wildlife park, a play area, and a picnic area with a covered barn for those less clement days. The other good news is that Axe Valley Wildlife Park is wheelchair and pushchair friendly.
