East Devon Way, Devon

Anyone who likes a good walk should explore the East Devon Way, the beauty of it being that you can go as far as you like – though you may need to plan it well with a car at each end or a good circular walk to return to your starting point.

The East Devon Way covers 40 miles from Exmouth to Lyme Regis just over the border in Dorset. It takes in some of the most spectacular scenery along its course and crosses five rivers. There are gently rolling hills, steep wooded combes and big open fields; if you take a picnic you’ll find plenty of places to take a rest and enjoy your lunch; if not, there are several country pubs and tea rooms to stop off at.

We suggest the first and second stages of the trail as they’re closest to our Devon holiday cottages at Stonehayes Farm; the first part covers 9 miles from Colyton to Lyme Regis, so you can finish off with a locally made pasty or fish and chips on the beach. The second stage is slightly shorter – 6 miles from Colyton to Farway, or if you do it the other way round you can reward yourselves with tasty home cooked food at The Kingfisher Inn in Colyton.
