Exmouth Land Train, Exmouth, Devon

A trip to Exmouth on the Jurassic Coast is a great idea and when you’re there, use the Exmouth Land Train to get around and explore the town. That way you get to see more of the sights and enjoy the sea views, and with onboard commentary, you get a history lesson thrown in gratis.

The 3 carriage train picks up from the main long stay car parks and does a loop around the town centre, along the seafront, out to the marina and back again. You can stay on for the whole circuit, which will take about an hour, or hop on and off at any of the 12 designated stops. Alight for an afternoon on the sands, perhaps some rockpooling if the tide is out, a spot of crabbing, or a fishing trip to catch mackerel for supper. Stop for lunch at Mickey’s Beach Bar & Restaurant, or to hire a paddleboard or kayak to take out on the sea; leave your land legs behind and board a boat with Stuart Line Cruises for a trip along the coast.

If you’ve got babies or toddlers with you, pushchairs can be folded up and carried on the Exmouth Land Train, and dogs are allowed on board as long as they’re kept on a lead. If the weather’s good, the carriages will be open sided, which adds to the fun.
