Goren Farm Wildflower Meadows, Stockland, Honiton, Devon

We are lucky to have some very special places in this neck of the woods; Goren Farm Wildflower Meadows is one of them, so if you have the time when you’re down here staying in one of our Devon holiday cottages, you should go. The farm is family run and has the most beautiful setting among the gentle rolling hills of East Devon; it will be one of those days that you’ll look back on and remember fondly, providing the weather behaves itself.

Goren Farm has over 50 acres of ancient wildflower meadows, orchards, informal gardens and a walled garden. It’s all so perfect and traditional, with centuries old stone farm buildings and animals to say hello to. Like a lot of farms these days, they’ve diversified and now have a cider museum, a small café and a shop. Allow plenty of time and set off on a self guided nature trail, explore the woods and streams, let the little ones have fun in the play area. Most of all, see the flower meadows – they are an absolute dream, with so many kinds of grasses and flowers; to watch butterflies dancing in the air above thousands of orchids is incredible.

Feel free to take your own food and drink, they don’t mind at all and even have a picnic area, but if that sounds like too much bother when you’re on holiday, stop for a bite to eat at the café instead. They serve light lunches, cream teas and very good homemade cakes.

The meadows are closed for a few days each summer when they have their annual festival so it’s worth checking before you go. Also, remember it’s a farm so the ground may be a bit rough and uneven in places; best to wear sensible shoes and if you’ve got an all-terrain buggy, great; if not, a baby carrier might be a good idea. Dogs are welcome but they must be kept on a lead and you must pick up their poo, as any decent person would do.
