Sidbury, Sidmouth, Devon

Snuggled in the folds of the beautiful Sid Valley, Sidbury is just a few miles inland from Sidmouth on the Jurassic Coast. It’s all rather pretty here, especially off the main road, with several charming old cottages, and the River Sid tripping it’s merry way through the village. The community is a thriving one with a pub, shop, primary school and village hall.

If you like your history go and have look round the village church, it’s one of the few in Devon that has a Saxon crypt, if you like nothing more than a good hike in glorious countryside mark this as a stopping place because the East Devon Way passes through Sidbury. If you came here in September you might wonder what’s going on because most of the villagers and a crowd of visitors are milling about for Sidbury Fair; the air is very lively – scarecrow competitions, a Hot Pennies ceremony, stalls and crafts and an auction of poultry, livestock and local produce. It’s how we do things in the West Country, long may it continue.
