The Bowd Inn, Sidmouth, Devon
Family run and owned, The Bowd Inn is a lovely thatched roof pub just outside of Sidmouth where, as far as possible, locally sourced ingredients are used in the pub classics that are served. It’s a good place to go for lunch after a morning on the beach or a visit to The Donkey Sanctuary, as it’s just up the road and there’s plenty of outdoor seating and a play area; great for the little ones, great for grown-ups to sit in the sunshine with a nice cold drink.
The popular Farmhouse Carvery is served every day and caters for all with a good selection of meats, perfect roast potatoes and lots of different fresh veg; non meat eaters ought to be delighted with the Apricot and Goats Cheese Nut Roast. If you’re not in the mood for a full-on roast, have a light bite instead, perhaps a Prawn and Marie Rose Bloomer Sandwich or a Poached Pear and Walnut Salad. You might be tempted by the array of traditional pub grub on the mains menu - ham, egg and chips, beef lasagne, burgers, or fish and chips with a choice of cod, plaice or scampi.
The carvery, like we say, is popular, so best to book in advance if you can.
