The Donkey Sanctuary, Sidmouth, Devon

Go to The Donkey Sanctuary near Sidmouth and you can see all the happy donks who live there, happily nibbling the grass in the fields or tucking into some nice fresh hay in the barn. You can even get up close to some of them, say hello and give them a little tickle behind the ears. The setting is wonderful, in a peaceful corner of East Devon, tucked away in the hills not far from the Jurassic Coast; have a stroll through the woods on the nature trail, see the Hermit's Cave, let the kids have fun in the farm themed play area and the maze.

Round off your visit with a cream tea in the Kitchen cafe, but before you do, pop in the shop and treat yourself to a souvenir of your visit - perhaps a donkey pencil, a donkey tea towel, or a pair of donkey slippers. And if you've always fancied having your own pet donkey but don't have the room, do the next best thing - adopt one from The Donkey Sanctuary.

Open all year, 9.00am-5.00pm every day. Free admission, dogs welcome on leads.
