The Kings Arms, Otterton, Budleigh Salterton, Devon

The Kings Arms at Otterton is a traditional village inn with a warm welcome and good home cooked food. It stands among the centuries old thatched cottages on the main street where a stream trips happily along and all is well. Inside, the pub has been updated in recent years but the heritage colours, exposed brickwork, ceiling timbers and handmade tables help to retain the essential village pub character.

They love local at The Kings Arms, so whatever you choose to eat, you can be sure that most, if not all of the ingredients have been sourced in the local area. They place the same focus on drinks, with beer from Otter Brewery, cider from Sandford Orchards, gin from Salcombe, and even soft drinks from Devon. The sample lunch menu has a good choice of sandwiches, burgers and mains that are a mix of pub classics and British favourites – Fish and chips, Scampi and chips, Steak and ale pie with mash, Saffron Fish Stew, Wild Mushroom mac and cheese, Pan fried liver, bacon and onions.

Eat in the bar, in the light and airy restaurant, or if the sun has come out to play, outside on one of the two terraces. In the winter find a cosy corner by the fire, hunker down with a hearty glass of red or a pint of the local ale to keep you warm inside. Dogs are welcome, and in the rare event of anyone turning up on horseback, there’s even somewhere to safely park your steed.
