The Candlelight Inn, Bishopswood, Chard, Somerset

The Candlelight Inn at Bishopswood in the Blackdown Hills is a Somerset village pub that serves both the local community and visitors very well, striking that perfect balance between a rustic country inn and an excellent restaurant.

They serve a superb range of drinks including locally produced ales and ciders and their own artisan gin. That local thing is big here, with all manner of seasonal ingredients being put to very good use as testified by the menu. Come for lunch and choose from the likes of Pulled pork with Moroccan spiced chickpeas, salad, tzatziki, and pitta bread, Crispy cod goujon bap with tartar sauce, mixed leaf, and skinny fries, and Cider-battered cod & chips with tartare sauce and crushed peas. Go for relaxed barbecue nights in the summer and on Sundays for an amazing roast.

Remember The Candlelight Inn if you’re planning a walk in the country because you could tie this in with a stroll around Otterhead Lakes or Bishopswood Meadows just up the road. If it’s warm sit outside and sip a nice cool pint, if it’s chilly go in by the fire.
