Town Mill, Lyme Regis, Dorset

When you’re exploring Lyme Regis on your group holidays in Devon, go down to the bottom of the main street and veer off through the car park and follow the steps to Town Mill. What you’ll find is such a lovely surprise; the restored watermill was rescued from dereliction by a group of volunteers over a 10 year long project and is now home to the artisan quarter of the town.

The ancient buildings are set around a cobbled courtyard and feature the mill buildings with a working waterwheel, a mill shop, cafe and creative businesses. When the mill is open you can take a self-guided tour of all three floors, watch a milling demonstration and buy a bag of Town Mill flour to take home. Browse the art gallery and the independent makers, pop into The Strawberry Tree for tea and cake during the day or tapas in the evening, take a seat in the tap room at Lyme Regis Brewery and enjoy a pint of proper local beer, brewed onsite. Linger a while, soak up the laid back ambience of Town Mill before you stroll back to the busy streets and seafront.
