Weston Mouth Beach, Sidmouth, Devon

Weston Mouth Beach is a remote and secluded pebble and shingle beach on the Jurassic Coast in East Devon. Its isolation means that it’s not that well known and doesn’t get crowded, the biggest reason probably being the access - you can’t drive here. There is a small National Trust car park in the nearby hamlet of Weston, and parking at a farm a little further along the lane, but from there it’s a mile long walk down a track and fairly steep steps to the beach. The best way to get here is to walk over the cliffs from Sidmouth or Branscombe on the South West Coast Path, then divert off to Weston Mouth.

Another reason it doesn’t draw the crowds is because there are no facilities, and it’s worth knowing that there is no shade, so if you go, make sure you take a parasol and plenty of water. The other heads up is that Weston Mouth Beach is favoured by naturists due to its remoteness (no ‘gawpers’); they tend to keep to the right hand side of the beach, but if that kind of thing bothers you, perhaps you should give it a miss.

Dogs are allowed on the beach all year.
