If you’re staying in one of our Devon holiday cottages at Stonehayes Farm for the Easter holidays this year, or anywhere else nearby, you’ll love our round up of what’s on in the local area. Check out these family friendly Easter activities for 2026 and start getting eggs-cited (groan!).

Easter 2026 is here, the school holidays are in full swing and happy families will be heading off to various parts of the UK to enjoy a relaxing Easter break. If you’re spending Easter in East Devon, you’ll be glad to know there’s plenty of family fun to be had with several attractions hosting themed events. The weather’s been much better lately, Spring has well and truly arrived here in the valley at Stonehayes Farm, so if you’re staying in one of our gorgeous holiday cottages, you’ll be making the most wonderful memories.
All of our holiday cottages have private gardens (with hot tubs – woo-hoo!) and there are 15 acres of land that you’re free to roam, so you might be happy to spend every minute of your stay right here. Have your own Easter Egg Hunt, go for a nature walk, stroll down over the fields for a riverside picnic and a little paddle. If the weather isn’t so good, take the fun indoors by getting crafty; print off Easter themed colouring sheets, make paper plate or toilet roll tube Easter bunnies. Have an egg painting competition, decorate a twig Easter tree with little eggs and ribbons – all simple ideas that you don’t need lots of materials for.
If, on the other hand, you’re thinking a jolly good family day out would be good, you’ll be pleased to hear that there’s a lot going on in East Devon this Easter. We’ve got younger children ourselves, so we’ve already delved into what’s on and where, and we can’t wait! Here’s our round up of all that’s good and great on our local area for Easter 2026:
Heron Farm, Weston, Honiton
Just a couple of miles down the road from our holiday cottages, Heron Farm is one of our favourite places to go as a family. It’s so lovely there, with walks, vineyard tours, a well-stocked farm shop and restaurant, and for the little ones, a play park, fairy garden and orchard where sheep graze contentedly beneath the trees. Over Easter you can go walking with Alpacas on Saturday 4th April, or join an Easter Bunny Willow Weaving Workshop, on 11th April. What’s important is to book in advance.

The Donkey Sanctuary, Sidmouth
The Doney Sanctuary near Sidmouth is such a lovely place to be! Hundreds of happy donks have found their forever home here and you can go and see them cavorting in the fields, cosied up in the barns or just gently ambling around. Go say hello to them, catch a guided walk or a talk, stop for a bite to eat in the restaurant, find a donkey related momento in the gift shop, take the littluns to let off steam in the farm themed play area. Over the hols there’s a nature focussed Easter trail that you can follow to explore the site, discover wildlife, and fingers crossed, win a prize. There’s heaps of parking and a little bonus – entry to the sanctuary is free.

Wildwood Devon, Ottery Saint Mary
Another of our favourites, Wildwood Devon is a great place to visit any time of year, with regular attractions including a woodland drop slide and zip wire, a Red Squirrel walk-through, otter family viewing, birds of prey displays, a giant maze, and play areas indoors and outdoors. Easter promises to be seriously good here with a ‘Spring has Sprung’ celebration. There are lots of adventures to be had with an Easter trail, themed face painting, and from April 6th to 22nd, activities in the Saxon Village. Strike a Saxon penny, carve runes, weave a willow crown or wand, toast marshmallows. We’re not sure they had marshmallows in Saxon times, but that’s by the by!

Seaton Tramway, Seaton
Most of our guests love a ride on the tram at Seaton and so do we! The 3 mile route takes you through the glorious Axe Valley, along the estuary and the wildlife rich wetlands. They run themed events and experiences throughout the year – this Easter you can help find the Station Master's missing geese and chicks to win a treat! On April 10th they’re running a Story Tram for young families, featuring themed tales and songs. Alight at Colyton for a cream tea in the Tramstop Café and maybe a stroll along the river.

Seaton Wetlands, Seaton
The wetlands at Seaton are a haven for migratory and resident birds as well as a host of other wildlife like dragonflies, butterflies and even otters. It’s a very tranquil place with boardwalks and a Discovery Hut where regular activities and events are held. From 15th -21st April there’s an Easter Trail where families can explore the nature reserve and tick off the things they find. Kids can enter the colouring competition, you can all view the live nest cameras.

Catch a bird of prey flying display or the ferret racing, join in Easter themed arts and crafts, follow the Easter Egg Trail, have a Mad Hatter tea party and raise money for charity at the same time. There are indoor and outdoor play areas where the tinies can use up more of their boundless energy, a Museum of Farming and Hall of Transport, eateries and picnic areas.

Ferne Animal Sanctuary, Chard
This small sanctuary in the Blackdown Hills has such a lovely setting and is a forever home to many abandoned or unwanted animals. Stroll around the nature reserve and watch butterflies flit over the pond, see the machinery wall and let the kids have a romp in the play area. It all gets egg-stra egg-citing on Easter Sunday with an egg hunt, a visit from none other than the Easter Bunny, and a Spring Craft Fayre featuring local makers.

Killerton, Broadclyst, Exeter
Killerton is our local National Trust property, good for a visit anytime of year, to walk in the formal gardens, the wider grounds, or in season, to tour the 18th century mansion house. From 27 March to 19 April 2026 there’s a nature themed interactive play trail, running which allows children to explore the gardens and chapel grounds, learn about the estate's rangers and wildlife – all rounded off very nicely with a chocolate egg at the end!

Crealy Theme Park and Resort, Clyst St Mary, Exeter
With over 60 rides and attractions Crealy Theme Park is one of the most popular family destinations in the West Country. Get ready for a day of non-stop family fun and excitement over the Easter hols – from 3rd-19th April the park is fully open and will be unveiling the ‘Pirates Plummet’ – the South West’s tallest drop tower ride. There’s a pirate themed egg hunt (oo-arrr me hearties!), the Sooty Show will be running, there are play areas and places to eat on site.

So bring it on, an Egg-stravaganza of fun and joy, precious family time, precious memories!
