Weekends Away In The Country

It's true, our guests enjoy their weekends away in the country so much that they tell us they feel sad to leave - but they go home feeling like they've had a good rest down here in Devon, and recharged their batteries, which is great, that's partly what it's all about. The thing is, a few days in the country is fantastic anytime of year, especially here in the Blackdown Hills AONB; come in the springtime when the apple blossom is out in the orchards, when the hedgerows are frothy with cow parsley, the woodland floors are carpeted with bluebells and the birds are twittering and chirruping all day long.

Come in the summer when the sun shines down on the 15 acre grounds we have here; wander down across the fields for a lazy picnic by the river, cool down with a paddle, watch dragonflies dance in mid air. Climb up to Dumpdon Hill to watch the most amazing sunsets, sit out beneath the stars before you turn in, the window open so the cool night breezes carry you off to sleep.

Come in the autumn and walk through the crisp leaves in the beech woods, look out on a landscape that's cloaked with the red and gold, the russet and bronze of the season. Come in winter for frosty ambles, hand in hand, all wrapped up in warm coats and scarves, to return to the fireside and hot buttery toast.
