It’s that time of year… clouds, grey skies, rain, and temperatures dropping. But don’t let it affect your mood, keep your chin up and put your best foot forward. One sure-fire way to beat the November blues is to get away for a few days with close friends and family; our gorgeous holiday cottages offer the best kind of winter breaks in Devon for groups.
Winter breaks in Devon for groups can be just the thing this time of year, a great way to lift your spirits and keep you smiling. There are several advantages to taking a short break in November or December – for one thing, it’s cheaper, but a huge plus is that it’s not so busy everywhere. Less traffic and less people about, so generally more relaxing. It’s easier to get a table for dinner at a country pub, you can actually get to see the displays in museums and galleries as no-one’s in your way, and browsing round a pretty market town when the streets aren’t packed is so much nicer.
Getting away with a group of your favourite people is so good for you. Time spent reconnecting, swapping stories, and making new memories. If there’s something to celebrate, even better. Pull all the stops out for that special birthday or anniversary, hire private chefs to cook up a feast for you, set the table and put on the twinkly lights. Bring a magical glow to a dark winters night, make it unforgettable.
Now that so many people are working from home, long weekends away or mid-week winter breaks in Devon for groups are so much easier to organise, especially if you have pre-school age kids or are home schooling. Our large group holiday cottages have reliable wifi and room to work, so all you need to do is pack the laptop and your books. Hunker down in a big and beautiful country cottage for a few days and love every minute of being together.
Stay at Pippinsands for as little as £21 per night each – seriously! This lovely old thatched farmhouse sleeps 14 in 6 bedrooms and has all the restful feels of a country retreat. It’s got heaps of character too – thick stone walls, exposed timbers, wooden floors and window seats. The big private garden has a hot tub and play area, and you can go and have fun in the games room here at Stonehayes Farm.
Julesbrook is available for the same prices. This lovingly converted barn sleeps 16 in 7 bedrooms and has its own games room, hot tub and play area. The style is crisp and quite contemporary, with a backdrop of age old country character.
If you needed extra accommodation, there’s Siskins Nook, tucked away in the corner of the farm, sleeping 4 in 2 bedrooms, all lovely and cosy, and available for similar prices to our larger cottages. All are family friendly and dog friendly.
If you haven’t been to Stonehayes Farm before, let us tell you where it is. It’s nestled away out round the lanes in the Blackdown Hills National Landscape, with far reaching views over the Otter valley. Honiton is about 2 miles away, the beaches on the Jurassic Coast can be reached in half an hour, and the A303 and M5 are within very easy reach. It’s so peaceful here, with the countryside all around; there are 15 acre grounds for guest to stroll in, down across the fields to the little River Luv, woodland to amble through, ankle deep in autumn leaves. At night the moon is suspended over the valley - the perfect, peaceful country night, the silence spread over the landscape, disturbed only by the occasional owl hooting or a distant fox barking.
Winter breaks in Devon for large groups are the perfect antidote to the winter blues, a way to welcome in the darker nights and shorter days, to re-establish bonds with your loved ones and fill your soul with love. Hunker down, snuggle up, be happy ❤️
