Northleigh, Colyton, Devon

Northleigh is a small village nestled in the rolling hills not far from Colyton in East Devon and just a very short drive from Beer on the Jurassic Coast, great for days on the beach, rockpooling and boat hire. It’s a very peaceful place and has a contented community living quietly in the cottages, houses and farms, enjoying life in this beautiful little corner of the world.

There are some fantastic walks starting from Northleigh, with routes taking you through the scenic Coly Valley, within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; the views are incredible, stretching for miles and miles. Close by is Hawkswood Local Nature Reserve where a waymarked trail takes you through the wood and over the heaths and grasslands that are rich in wildlife and superb for fungi spotting. When you get back to the village, have a look at the church where there are 15th century carved bench ends and a font made of Beer stone extracted from Beer Quarry Caves; the stone was also used in the construction of St Pauls’ Cathedral, Westminster Abbey and Windsor Castle.
