Winter Cottage Breaks In Devon

It may be cold outside and the skies may be a little grey but you can still have fun with our winter cottage breaks in Devon. Just imagine being tucked up in a cosy country cottage deep in the countryside, snug as bugs in comfy beds, nestled in front of the wood-burner with trays of hot buttery toast and mugs of hot chocolate… just what winter breaks in the UK are all about.

At Stonehayes Farm we have five gorgeous holiday houses for winter cottage breaks in Devon with snooze space for 4-14 guests. The smaller cottages have been lovingly restored from old farm buildings that were once an apple store, a linhay, a shippen and a grain barn, whilst Pippinsands once served as the farmhouse. All are cosy and welcoming with everything you need to enjoy a peaceful winter cottage break far away from the push and shove of city life.

Don’t let the cold weather put you off, come and be snug and content in our Devon holiday cottages. They each have their rustic charm which blends to perfection with modern furnishings and well equipped kitchens; put your feet up on the sofa, snuggle in front of the wood-burner, nice and toasty in big chunky jumpers and thick socks. Tuck into wholesome homemade soups, hearty stews and big breakfasts to kick start your day, just slow down and idle the hours away, spending time together, reconnecting with no chores to think about, work pushed aside for a few days at least.

That’s the thing, it’s so lovely here that we often think we should designate one of the barns as a ‘Worry deposit’ – somewhere to drop off your troubles when you arrive at Stonehayes Farm, because honestly, you don’t need them here. It’s so relaxing with the peace and quiet and the fresh country air, and all around is a beautiful landscape of gentle rolling hills, wide open fields and views that roll on for miles across the Otter Valley.

We have a saying here at Stonehayes Farm; we believe there’s no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing and it’s so true. Once you’re out there, dressed sensibly it’s quite amazing to feel the force of the elements and to connect with nature – perhaps the biggest pleasure is to know that you have a cosy country cottage to go back to where you can hang up your togs, dry off your dogs and get settled for the rest of the day, whether it’s a quiet read, an evening of board games, or a family movie night.

Run out to the games room at Stonehayes Farm – there’s a pool table, table tennis and table football and games for the little ones. This is a place where new friendships are made – the games room is shared with the four smaller holiday cottages and it gladdens our hearts when we hear the happy chatter of guests, the shrieks of laughter.

Even in the winter it’s a delight to pootle out around the winding lanes and find a friendly country pub to stop at for homemade food, or to go to one of the local towns on market day and browse the stalls, filling your basket with tasty local produce. Fair enough, most of the attractions may be closed, but some are open – you can still visit The Donkey Sanctuary and Wildwood Escot, and you can go over to the beaches on the Jurassic Coast for a stroll about – Beer and Branscombe are both charming fishing villages with a gentle ambience, at Lyme Regis you can visit Dinosaurland Fossil Museum – we can’t think where else you’d see a 73kg lump of dinosaur dung!

Come and enjoy a winter cottage break at Stonehayes Farm with your nearest and dearest; come just to get away for a few days, maybe for a birthday celebration, or for the February half term week. Spend a romantic weekend here, come for Valentines’ Day and feel the love. Be warm, be happy, make memories to cherish – book your winter cottage breaks today!
