It’s good to see brighter days after the latest winter storms, it gives us hope and lifts the spirits. If, like a lot of people, you feel in need of a break, a few days peace and quiet with friends and fam, check out our large cottages for spring breaks in Devon. We’re running special offers all through March which means you get to stay for less!

The Otter Valley in springtime. It’s spectacular, especially on those bright clear days when you can actually feel the heat of the sun and nothing more than a gentle breeze on your face. We went for a stroll this morning, around the grounds here at Stonehayes Farm, and it was so lovely to be outside. The sun was shining, big fluffy clouds were pillowed up on top of one another, and the birds were singing. We saw snowdrops nodding their little heads, and at the bottom of the hedgerows we spotted the first primroses and celandines. The grass is growing, the trees are coming into bud and are already dangling their catkins for us to see.

You see, this is what we all need to do, to slow down, to get away from our phones and devices and get outdoors and notice things. That stopping and staring is so good for us, it’s like a nature meditation, even if you’re just stopping to admire the views. Oh, the views, the views here, rolling on for miles, like a patchwork quilt of varying shades of green spread out across the landscape.

We appreciate though, that not everyone is as nuts about nature as we are, so it’s a good job there’s plenty of other stuff to see and do in this part of Devon. Go and have a mooch around Honiton, our local town just down the road, or spend a day in Exeter, browsing the shops, exploring, getting active down by the quay. If you have little people to keep amused, take them to The Donkey Sanctuary or to Wildwood Devon, and of course, there’s always the seaside. The beautiful Jurassic Coast is less than half an hour away, with boat trips, watersports, beachside cafes, attractions and so many cafes, pubs and restaurants for when you need to fill your belly.

But what if the weather isn’t good? Ah, don’t worry about it, there’s plenty to keep you happy at our large cottages for spring breaks. Let’s tell you about them.

Pippinsands was the farmhouse back in the days when the land was worked at Stonehayes. And it’s gorgeous, full of country character, a proper thatched Devon longhouse. 6 good sized bedrooms sleep 14, there’s a big drawing room where you can gather together, and a dining table that seats you all. If you’ve got a couple who like their own space, let them have the integral annexe, complete with kitchen, living room, bedroom and shower room. Outside there’s a nice big garden with a hot tub and play area, onsite there’s a shared games room and 16 acre private grounds with riverside walks.

Julesbrook sleeps 16 in 7 bedrooms and has its own games room, living room/movie room and plenty of space for dining together. The garden is huge, with a hot tub and play area and you’ll still have use of the shared games room and the grounds. This big holiday cottage comes with stacks of charm – it used to be the apple stores and linhays on the farm, so where possible, original features have been retained.

If you need more space, there’s Siskins Nook, tucked away in the corner of the courtyard, sleeping 4 in 2 bedrooms. It may be a smaller cottage but it still has it’s own garden and hot tub.

If you have something to celebrate, make it one to remember by checking out our Extras list and booking whatever appeals. There are tried and tested private chefs to come and cook you up a scrumbdumbtious feast, there are people to entertain you, to pamper you, to show you new skills. Put a spring in your step this spring, and smiles on faces with an unforgettable stay at Stonehayes Farm.
