Cottages in Devon For October Half Term

If you’re looking for cottages in Devon for October half term we have some availability, but you’ll need to be quick because these are strange times and our family friendly holiday cottages are booking up fast at Stonehayes Farm. Grab it whilst it’s going and make the most of a half term stay in the country!

Stonehayes Farm is a beautiful place to stay, there’s no denying that. If you’ve been here before you’ll know how gorgeous the setting is – out in the winding lanes in the Blackdown Hills AONB with incredible views over the Otter Valley. Being out in the sticks means peace and quiet so you’ll have happy days and restful nights; it’s a chance to reconnect as a family, to be together and make extra special memories.

Being in the countryside means you can pull on your boots and go exploring, fill your lungs with healthy fresh air, revel in that wonderful autumn ambiance. There’s something very special about the sunshine that time of year, the way it slants through the trees – and those beautiful hazy mornings – we love it! Go and pick up autumn leaves to press or make prints with, look out for wildlife, wander the footpaths through the fields and woods. Climb up to the Iron Age fort at Dumpdon Hill, look down on Stonehayes Farm and out across miles and miles of unspoilt countryside – it’s awesome! Right on the doorstep of your cottages in Devon for October half term are 15 acres of grounds for you to roam; wander down to the little River Luv for a splash, come back and head for the play area where the little ones can let off steam on the climbing fort or the trampoline – and if it’s raining make for the games room and have fun playing pool, table tennis or table football.

Just down the road is the thriving market town of Honiton with a weekly market and a good mix of shops – mostly independent but some well known names too, including two supermarkets. You’ll find workshops and activities at the The Thelma Hubert Gallery, or you could book up a family pot painting session at The Honiton Pottery Workshop – both great for rainy days and afterwards you could tuck into tasty food at Bella Pizza or JK’s Bistro.

Most of the family attractions in this area will still be open for October half term, so there are some great days out to be had, like a visit to The Donkey Sanctuary, World of Country Life or Wildwood Escot. There are historic houses too – Killerton and Knightshayes are both just a short drive away and have vast parkland to explore where you can go den building, bug spotting and what they usually do that time of year, Halloween events.

And then there are the beaches. We are so lucky to be within half an hour of the World Heritage Site Jurassic Coast where the diversity of coastal towns and villages offer wonderful opportunities for rockpooling, bathing, fossil hunting and watersports. Exmouth and Sidmouth are very popular with wide beaches to play on, Lyme Regis is a must with three beaches, a fascinating Marine Aquarium, crazy golf and Dinosaurland Fossil Musuem where there are over 16,000 specimens to see.

At Seaton you can have a prehistoric adventure at Seaton Jurassic and ride a good old fashioned electric tram through the wetlands to Colyton for cream tea. If you prefer quieter beaches you’ll like the coastal villages – Branscombe is idyllic and at Beer you can tie your trip to the seaside in with a visit to Beer Quarry Caves or Pecorama, which is train heaven.
